If the NFLDraft2019 is to exceed the average of about 3 quarterbacks selected in the 1st round, it will likely be Duke's Daniel Jones who joins Kyler Murray, Drew Lock and Dwayne Haskins
This appears to be a top-heavy year at the position, with Murray, Haskins – potentially the first Big Ten quarterback to go in the first round since Kerry Collins in 1995 – and Lock the only players in McShay’s top 25. Including those three, the ESPN analyst has just nine quarterbacks in his top 250, with the others being N.C. State’s Ryan Finley , Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham , Jones , Buffalo’s Tyree Jackson , West Virginia’s Will Grier , Northwestern’s Clayton Thorson .

In the last 20 drafts, between 1999 and 2018, NFL teams selected a total of 251 quarterbacks, good for an average of 12.55 per year. Of those quarterbacks, 57 were drafted in the first round, an average of 2.85 per year. With the exception of whichever teams land possible No. 1 overall pick Murray and perhaps Lock and Haskins, this may be a year where most NFL clubs exit the draft with modest expectations for their rookie quarterbacks – with the expectation that 2020 could feature a loaded class that rivals last year’s.
