To win all-Australian selection playing for the second-bottom team is no mean feat. But Nick Larkey thinks it’s all north from here.
. For a player from a club in North Melbourne’s parlous position, these are deceptively worthy achievements.
“And the thought of leaving for a club pushing for a flag … I just didn’t feel like it would mean as much as if I stuck around and had success at the club that drafted me and I poured all my heart and soul into for six tough years. When we get success, which I’m sure is not too far away, it will be worth it and [it’s] going to mean so much more.”Larkey said North’s callow demographics eventually would work in their favour.
His kicking style is far from flamboyant. He notes that many of his goals just make it across the line. It’s not by accident. “I like to take a bit of heat off the ball. I feel like there’s less margin for error,” he said.
