Suggesting that the monarch may never be able to return to the 'normal' duties of her usual job, due to COVID-19, Morton toldthat 'it’s terribly sad,' but noted that the virus could 'be with us for months, if not years,' and that 'it would be far too risky for the Queen to start meeting people on a regular basis.'
Morton added: 'How can she carry out investitures, meet ambassadors, do walkabouts and visit places without meeting people at close range? If she gets the bug, it could be fatal and would put Prince Philip at risk.'this year, has been isolating with 98 year-old Prince Phillip at Windsor Castle since March, when concerns surrounding the virus increased dramatically and her usual face-to-face meetings ceased.
Morton adds that she will continue to follow 'any official advice designed to protect people in her age category'.Buckingham Palace is yet to comment on what the future holds for the Queen and her royal duties, but as they've already had to contend with one senior member of the royal family catching the virus so far, we imagine they'll want do everything in their power to keep Her Majesty as safe as possible for as long as they can.
