“We just view him as a really good change of scenery candidate,” Farhan Zaidi said of A.J. Pollock, the Giants’ first deadline acquisition.

SAN FRANCISCO — As they watched other contenders beef up their rosters with less than 24 hours to go until Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Giants made their first move Monday afternoon. But will it be their last?

But president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, reconnecting with his favorite trading partner, believes both players can help the Giants patch some holes. “You’re always going to go back to your board of guys you’ve been interested in in the past,” Zaidi said. “Obviously he hasn’t had a great season in Seattle.”While appearing in 49 of a possible 105 games, Pollock has posted career-lows in batting average , on-base percentage and slugging percentage . Like Yastrzemski, he was recently sidelined by a hamstring strain, but the Giants are hopeful he could be activated as soon as Tuesday.

In addition to Yastrzemski, the Giants are also still missing Mitch Haniger, their top right-handed-hitting outfield bat. Recently cleared to resume baseball activities, Haniger is eyeing the end of August for his return. “Even as we get guys back, I think there’s a role for to be part of our outfield rotation and help in that way,” Zaidi said. “Having an experienced outfielder who’s good defensively, who can play all three spots, will certainly help a little bit.”
