The Western Australia Premier was a key focus of the New South Wales election campaign on Tuesday as the Coalition and Labor vowed to fight for a fair share of GST.
Both NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Opposition Leader Chris Minns this week vowed to fight to ensure the state receives its fair share of the tax post-election.
"If you don't pull the rope on your end of the tug of war, when it comes to funds, NSW will miss out. Mr Minns said he has not spoken to Mr McGowan recently about the GST but as NSW had"the biggest economy in the country" the state is"entitled to our fair share". Under the deal struck by then-federal treasurer Scott Morrison, Western Australia was assured it would receive at least 70 cents of every dollar raised, reaching 75 cents in 2024-25.Mr Perrottet has previously argued the GST distribution"is supposed to broadly equalise service delivery and infrastructure across the states, specifically by taking into account each state's own revenue-raising capacity".
