M3GAN producer Jason Blum explains why its sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is not being rushed to production despite the success of the first film. M3GAN was the first success of 2023, earning over $165.9 million worldwide over a $12 million budget and received stellar reviews from critics. The film currently sits at 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and a sequel was quickly greenlit shortly after the original's release, with a release date of January 17, 2025.
Now, in an interview with Empire Online, Blum explained that while the success for M3GAN was considerable, the filmmakers will be taking their time for the sequel. He believes that the creative process suffers when a production is rushed, and with the original director and writer coming back, they have time to elevate the script before filming begins.
