Godzilla's the undisputed King of the Monsters, but there seems to be a new alpha Titan in town, and shockingly, Godzilla won't fight it - here's why!

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Warning! This article contains spoilers for Godzilla: The War for Humanity #2 While it’s been established that Godzilla is the King of the Monsters and the strongest kaiju on Planet Earth, it looks like there’s a new alpha Titan that has seemingly usurped Godzilla’s throne.

Though the MonsterVerse’s Godzilla continuity is the one many modern fans are most familiar with, and what they consider to be the main Godzilla canon, that universe is far from the only one. Currently, there are multiple Godzilla stories being told, not just in film , but also in the form of comic book series. One such series is IDW Publishing’s Godzilla: The War for Humanity, which features an all-new kaiju called Zoospora.

Godzilla Refuses To Fight Zoospora To Protect His Son Minilla In Godzilla: The War for Humanity #2 by Andrew MacLean and Jake Smith, a team of kaiju specialists are responding to the recent destruction caused by Zoospora - who is less of an animalistic monster and more of a rampaging fungus. One member of the squad has faith that Godzilla will respond to the attack, making their own efforts unnecessary, and perhaps even harmful.

As it turns out, Godzilla simply doesn’t want to leave his young son Minilla alone on Monster Island, as there are far too many threats that Minilla can’t yet handle on his own - not to mention the threat Zoospora itself poses to the child. Not only that, but Zoospora has the power to corrupt kaiju with some kind of mind-altering vomit it expels from its mouth. If Godzilla was taken over by this kaiju, there would be no one who could stop his rampage.

While it was initially easy to accept that Godzilla wanted humanity’s numbers to dwindle a bit, given his connection with the Earth and humans’ consistent harming of it, apathetic indifference isn’t exactly Godzilla’s m.o. Godzilla has more often than not been a champion of humanity, something that the MonsterVerse is leaning into heavily within that established continuity.
