Lightsaber dueling has been a centerpiece of Star Wars since its inception, yet each trilogy has a duelist who stands out among the rest.
Conflict is what lies at the center of every Star Wars trilogy, ever since audiences first saw the Tantive IV flee from Vader’s Star Destroyer in A New Hope. But while Star Wars’ space battles are fantastic for displaying conflict, nothing beats a classic lightsaber duel. In their pursuit of peace, the Jedi have honed their lightsaber skills to perfection, whereas the Sith often use dishonorable tricks to gain an advantage over their opponents.
When he struck down Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan became the first Jedi to have killed a Sith in over a millennium. Later, when the Republic had located General Grievous on Utapau, the most accomplished Jedi Council members unanimously voted that Obi-Wan should go to deal with Grievous. Perhaps the only time he ever truly struggled as a duelist was when Obi-Wan almost died against Count Dooku in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
