“I feel like in a way the Goop effect is a bit like the Oprah effect.” Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness brand debuts new series as practitioners bask in the limelight.
In the new Netflix show “The Goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow,” energy practitioner John Amaral hovers his hands a few inches over stressed-out clients in what looks like a spa version of an exorcism. After their bodies twist and twitch in response, they report feeling better.
Mr. Amaral is one of several up-and-coming gurus who stand to gain celebrity—and business—thanks to the series making a debut Friday. “We’re at the very beginning,” he says. “They’re giving me an amazing opportunity to be showcased.”
