White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre deflected questions for a third consecutive day about the ongoing investigation into President Joe Biden's handling of classified materials Friday, but did say that Biden did not receive an advance warning on the appointment of a special counsel in the matter.
Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on Thursday that former U.S. attorney Robert Hur would oversee the investigation, just hours after Biden acknowledged that a second batch of documents had been discovered at his Wilmington home."I can tell you that we were not giving in a heads up. I was asked that question yesterday.
Later in the briefing, Jean-Pierre additionally doubled down on Biden's pledge to"fully cooperate" with the Justice Department and let special counsel Hur conduct his investigation"independently," but she also declined to give any new information, referring questions to the Justice Department.You can watch Friday's press briefing in full below.
