Weekly White House Report Card ✏️ ZogbyStrategies was one of those in the front row looking for action and seeing none, grading the week a 'D' jedbabbin gave the week an “F” for many of the same failures Zogby saw

Not only did it appear that Biden wasn’t very engaged on the issues, but everybody noticed he was AWOL. On the debt issue, the face was House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who offered up a deal to cut spending and raise the debt ceiling. On the immigration crisis, it was anybody but Biden or his border czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, out front explaining what’s happening.Democratic pollster John Zogby was one of those in the front row looking for action and seeing none.

In the battle with Congress over the budget and debt limits, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy seems to be more out front than the president and the Democrats. It does appear now that neither side will let the government default on its debts, and both sides are willing to discuss some budget cuts. But they are very far apart on where those cuts should be made — and they are dug in. Nonetheless, the speaker appeared to own this week.

Between 700,000 and 1.2 million illegal immigrants are poised to enter the U.S. as this is written. The Title 42 restrictions, which ended on Thursday, helped bar entry to many on health grounds, but the end of the COVID emergency brought about a Biden plan to “catch and release” the hundreds of thousands of illegals without even an assigned court date for their cases to be heard.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has said that a default could occur as early as June 1. The debt ceiling — set by law under Section 4 of the 14th Amendment — is something Biden has to obey in order to obey his oath of office. If he doesn’t, and the U.S. defaults for the first time, look for a stock market crash, Social Security checks to be stopped, and a whole lot more. It’s long past time for Biden to get serious and negotiate with Republicans on real spending cuts.
