Former Springbok star Henry Honiball carved his legacy in the early years of post-apartheid South African rugby.
Honiball’s journey began with the Free State Cheetahs, but his true colours shone through at Natal . There, he established himself as a key player, amassing over 150 appearances and leading the Sharks to three Currie Cup titles.for the Springboks between 1993 and 1999, but there is no doubt that he boasted the talent to have played many more games at international level.
He was also a crucial part of the 1998 Springbok team that secured their first-ever Tri-Nations series victory. “The mountain of a man Henry was – when off the field – is much more important to me than the man mountain he was on it. He must rate as the greatest gentleman to have played sport and is certainly the most modest player I have coached.
