It was after 2am in Melbourne when Azarenka triumphed over Zhu Lin, with the former world number one admitting she was staring at a fourth-round exit before clawing her way back into the match.

"It was a hell of a match. It was very physical. There were so many rallies," Azarenka told reporters at Melbourne Park.

"I felt like everything was going in. It was a bit frustrating for me, I'm not going to lie. I probably didn't show it, but I was a bit upset because [I was thinking] when is it going to turn my way? "In the second set, I was playing better. Third set, [the] momentum shifts [were] going crazy. But I'm so happy that I was able to turn this around."While Pegula is firming as the favourite to lift the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup among those left in the women's draw, Belarusian Azarenka is not discounting her own chances.

"I don't really look back and think about what I have done. I just try to really create new memories," she said.
