WhatsApp has announced the global rollout of a few features, including scheduling calls and the ability to raise your hand in a group call.
WhatsApp is not generally the messaging or voice call platform you think of when work calls are involved. But the Meta subsidiary is rolling out features that make it feel just like that, for better or worse. And of the relatively short list, the one that feels the least like work is the ability to schedule calls.
As the platform puts it, you can find the 'Schedule call' option from the '+' button in the Calls tab. From here, you can invite people, or even groups, to join in advance. Speaking of the Calls tab, it will also show upcoming calls and those who are attending. Then there's improved call management for the one who is the 'call creator', as WhatsApp puts it. Which basically means that if you made the call link and sent it out, you'll be notified when someone joins the call via said link.
Finally, the bits that make WhatsApp group calls feel more and more like a Zoom call. The platform says that it's added 'new ways for users to express themselves on group calls'. One is letting you send a reaction, so that you can take part without interrupting. The other though is letting you indicate that you'd like to speak by 'raising your hand'.
Whatever your view of that last bit, WhatsApp says that it has begun the global rollout of the update. It will be hitting devices gradually, so if you don't yet have it, it will simply be a matter of time.
