WABetaInfo reports that a beta version of WhatsApp hints at allowing users to transfer their chat via QR code, between Android and iOS.
Transferring your WhatsApp chats from one phone to another, especially if you're moving between Android and iOS, has always been a painful process. It has gradually been made more seamless, especially with the QR code method announced last year, but this method only works when transferring within the same mobile OS platform. But within the beta version of the app lies hints that point at universal applicability of this method.
As WABetaInfo reports, WhatsApp beta version 2.24.13.6 on Android shows that the Meta subsidiary is removing the borders of QR code transfers. While this method of chat transfer already exists, it currently only works between either two Android devices or two iOS devices. The language shown in the current beta indicates a more universal application.
Of course, for now there's no telling when, or even if, this will actually happen. And considering the time gap between when WhatsApp was seen testing the initial QR code feature and when it actually gets rolled out, we may be in for quite the wait. Of course, it's entirely possible that the report is entirely off the mark, and the beta is merely showing a new screen for the same process.
