The Crew ended a three-game losing streak in all competitions with a 3-2 win against the Rapids on Wednesday. Here's what we learned from the game.

"I don’t like when we don’t control the — it was hectic, a bit," Nancy said."It’s been also, but — at the end of the day, I don’t want to talk about performance, because as a coach, I have to sometimes step back and realize that sometimes, it’s going to happen that we’re going to play a weird game and we’re going to win. I’m happy. I’m happy for everyone and for my players also because it’s been not easy mentally.

"The way we conceded the second goal, we made a bad decision before the second goal, and this is something that we have to be better at, recognizing certain situations," Nancy said."But again, three goals, and we are happy with that."Lack of proven center backs is becoming dire for the Crew "I had in my mind already at certain moments, but it was the moment to change," Nancy said."As you know, we have young players. They haven’t played a lot of minutes last year, so everything is new for them, and I know that. The fact that some players played a little bit more is because of circumstances.

"The last two weeks, I started to get a couple reps here and there at center back," Zawadzki said."It was kind of new to me, but I just kind of go in and do what I do as a center midfielder in a way. Be calm, just keep it simple. Defensively it's a little different. Stuff that I do as a center mid, you can’t do as a center back, so kind of adjusting to that is a little difficult, but as the half went on, I think I grew more comfortable.

A late May midweek matchup against a Western Conference team isn't the traditional definition of a must-win game, but after a challenging stretch of games, the Crew needed a win to provide a boost. A team's highest-paid players are expected to rise to the occasion in those moments, and on Wednesday, Hernandez and Zelarayán did.
