While there are existing limits on borrowing federal student loans, the White House has not specified how much student loan borrowing will be further limited. Specifically, Trump has proposed to limit Parent PLUS Loans and Grad PLUS Loans, the former of which parents borrow to pay for the cost of their child's education and the latter of which students typically borrow for the cost of graduate school. The proposal does not seek to limit private student loans.
