This week on Gadget Lab, WIRED staff writer Aarian Marshall and WIRED's innovations editor Jeremy White join us for a conversation about where the Cybertruck’s development went wrong and how the EV’s difficult birth affects Tesla’s larger EV vision.
: Well, the alpha version is the first version, the first prototype version. So there's going to be stuff wrong with this. There's going to be lots wrong with this. And these sorts of issues with alpha versions are common. You expect to get them, but it's a matter of how bad the problems were. So yes, it should have problems with braking. Yes, it should have problems with handling. Yes, it should have some structural issues as well.
And even after they did that, they talked about how there were multiple holes in the sealant. Literal holes where noise can get in. And so that's one of the major challenges there. And then handling, there were a number of issues there. The report talked about excessive mid-speed abruptness and chop, high head toss accelerations, which is basically what you think it is when you floor it and your head goes all the way back. But it's like, does it a bit too much.
