In 2023, the Garma Festival will take place against the backdrop of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum. It will be the first since the passing of Yolngu Elder Yunupingu.

“In the Yolngu mind, djambatj is this vision of perfection; where we get things right,” he writes in program material.The four-day Garma Festival is a celebration of the Yolngu people's cultural and ceremonial traditions.For Denise Bowden, chief executive of the foundation, djambatj sees “each of us working together to achieve a common goal”.
The festival takes place at the Gulkula site, which is about 30 kilometres from the town of Nhulunbuy in North East Arnhem Land.
