RYK VAN NIEKERK: Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is South Africa’s minister of electricity. Yesterday he addressed the media on the status of Eskom and load shedding. This came after South Africa experienced a couple of good weeks with little load shedding, and then suddenly had to endure Stage 6 interruptions.
Essentially they are projects that have been approved, giving grid access for a period of close to three years, and some of them four years. They haven’t reached financial close. They’re holding [up] the grid. So we really want to release that space capacity to allow the projects that have reached financial close to connect.
