The Westlake Alumni Association celebrated the induction of nine new members into the Westlake Alumni Hall of Fame Oct. 5.
The Class of 2023 included Athletic, Distinguished and Honorary inductees.graduated in 1990 and was inducted under the Distinguished Alumni category for his musical achievements. When Kurokawa was a student at Westlake High School, he was a member of the jazz, pep and symphonic bands, taking his musical talents to perform at the state level.
He joined the faculty of the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1986, where he remained for 34 years. During his career, he performed nearly 2,500 kidney transplants, transforming lives and bringing new hope to patients. He lettered four years in football at Purdue University and later played professionally in the United States Football League.graduated in 2010 and excelled in wrestling, winning three Southwest Championship competitions. He was the only wrestler in school history to place three times at the state wrestling meet.
Simpson was known for his achievements in teaching history and government. He dedicated 30 years to serving as Westlake’s head cross-country coach. The team won six SWC titles, and the boys’ cross-country team finished third in the state in 1986.
