The 114-foot-long bridge, which crosses the Yellow Breeches Creek at the border between York and Cumberland counties, was closed to traffic in January 2020.

The event was attended by Pa. Rep. Sheryl Delozier, who represents the 88th House district, officials from Cumberland County and Lower Allen Township, and representatives from Energy Transfer.

“The ‘Save Our Bridge’ project has been in the making for years, and we are so grateful to advance the project with this donation,” Janice Lynx, WSHS executive director, said in a press release. “Energy Transfer’s support will enhance the bridge and its surroundings when this project is completed.” The 114-foot-long bridge, which crosses the Yellow Breeches Creek at the border between York and Cumberland counties, was closed to traffic in January 2020 after a safety inspection that determined that it was no longer safe for motor vehicles. The WSHS launched its“The Sheepford Road Bridge project over the years has been an excellent example of a public-private partnership and what we can do here in Cumberland County when we work together,” Delozier said.

Energy Transfer’s donation complements $1.4 million in funding from the Pa. Department of Transportation and will be used to purchase interpretive signs explaining the history of the bridge; signs for public safety; and landscaping. “We have enjoyed working with the West Shore Historical Society on this project for the last several years, and we are thrilled to be part of this historic transformation,” Joe McGinn, vice president of public affairs at Energy Transfer said. “Seeing this community come together to improve the area and mark this occasion is truly special.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
