Another heat advisory was issued for San Antonio on Friday. Meanwhile, triple-digit temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend as humidity from Gulf moisture amplifies the extreme heat.

Justin Claar cools down after a 15-mile bike ride at the Valero Trailhead on the Howard Peak Greenway Trails System along Leon Creek on Tuesday, when temperatures hit triple-digits. The extreme heat is expected to continue this weekend, with temperatures reaching as high as 105 degrees early next week.Another heat advisory was issued for Bexar County and other urban areas along Interstate 35 on Friday, asas high as 100 degrees in San Antonio.

“Heat indices near 110 are possible this afternoon. We’ll see how fast these clouds clear, because that will determine heating,” said Matthew Brady, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in New Braunfels. “I think they’ll clear pretty quickly and get up to 100 in real temperature this afternoon.”

Brady noted that temperatures are only expected to increase over the weekend. Daytime highs for Monday and Tuesday of next week will be nearer to 105 degrees, although heat index values may start lowering.“Moisture levels near the ground will lower a little bit, and it’ll be a drier heat,” Brady said. “Heat indices will be around 110 to 113, even for the hot days of Monday and Tuesday. There won’t be as much of a difference between the real temperature and the heat index as we’ve seen recently.

Winds also are expected to pick up over the course of the weekend, with gusts as strong as 30 mph on Sunday night. However, they’re likely to die back down early next week. Friday’s heat advisory is expected to last until 9 p.m. The weather service warns that the risk for heat-related illnesses is higher during the heat advisory, especially for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
