Logan Webb struck out nine over seven shutout innings as the Giants extended their win streak to five games.

SAN FRANCISCO — The last of Logan Webb’s career-high 112 pitches Tuesday night looked like it would be the one to spoil his seventh shutout inning.

“It was money. It was bang-bang. It was beautiful,” said Wynns, who corralled the throw on a short hop while protecting the plate. “I put my whole body in front of that plate. There was no way he was getting around my tag. He wasn’t scoring, no matter what.” With the Royals mounting their biggest previous scoring threat — runners at the corners with two outs in the sixth — Webb got top prospect Bobby Witt Jr. to swing through a slider and strand both runners on base. It was Witt’s 22nd birthday Tuesday, and Webb celebrated by sending him down for three of his nine strikeouts.

“They’re a team that hits fastballs decently well,” Webb said. “I thought the sinker was actually pretty good. It just kind of worked out that way.” With a dart to home plate, González ensured that, nope, it wouldn’t happen again. The ball bounced a foot or two up the third base line and took a short hop into Wynns glove with Melendez a step away from the plate.

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 14: San Francisco Giants’ Joc Pederson heads to first base on his infield single against the Kansas City Royals in the sixth inning at Oracle Park in San Francisco, Calif., on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
