On January 20, the White House shared that President Donald Trump decided to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization because of their alleged mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response, WHO released a statement expressing regret over the United States’ move to withdraw from the organisation.WHO mentioned how they’ve worked with the United States to save countless lives and protect people from health threats for over 7 decades. “Together, we ended smallpox, and together we’ve nearly wiped out polio. American institutions have contributed to and benefited from being part of WHO,” the statement said.

With the United States and other member countries on board, WHO highlighted how they’ve rolled out the biggest reforms in its history over the last 7 years to boost accountability, cost-effectiveness, and impact in countries. And this work is still going strong.WHO also highlighted that the United States was one of the founding members of the WHO back in 1948 and has been involved in shaping and guiding its work ever since, along with 193 other Member States.
