State assistant education minister slams rep's allegation that it wants to spend RM1 billion 'its own way'.

Sarawak says it needs RM3 billion to RM4 billion to repair dilapidated schools in the state.

This follows Putrajaya’s refusal to accept the Sarawak government’s offer of a RM1 billion loan to repair the dilapidated schools. However, Putrajaya requested the state government to make an “advance payment” for the repair works instead. He said Chong was also trying to portray the state government as not transparent although three committees comprising representatives from the finance ministry, education ministry and the state government would be formed to ensure that the targeted schools were upgraded.

Annuar said that since education came under the purview of Putrajaya, it was important for both the federal and state government to work together so the students did not suffer.
