Residents of Tapah, Bidor, and Teluk Intan in Perak, Malaysia are facing difficulties due to a disruption in water supply for nearly a week following a landslide that occurred in Taman Bunga Raya, Jalan Pahang Tapah. The landslide damaged a raw water pipe, causing a disruption in water supply to the Bukit Temoh Water Treatment Plant. Authorities are working hard to repair the damaged pipe and restore water supply as quickly as possible.
In this difficult situation, we should help each other and avoid blaming anyone. This statement was issued by Mawardah Ahmad Yusni, an expert from the Srikandi Muda Bersatu Malaysia Leading Council, following complaints from residents around Bidor and Tapah regarding the disruption of water supply for the past five days, making their daily activities difficult.
According to her, she has received many complaints from residents regarding this issue, to the extent that some of them have lost their patience because they have to wait for a long time. She also said that today she visited the Perak Water Board Tapah Office and met with the relevant parties to get a clear picture of the issue. According to her, the Perak Water Board (LAP) is working hard to resolve the water supply issue within an estimated week, but has yet to be able to provide a precise timeframe for full recovery. 'Efforts to build a bypass route in the affected area are also underway. and they informed that the LAP is currently diligently carrying out water supply restoration work as quickly as possible,' 'We understand the difficulties faced by the residents and will continue to strive to channel assistance as appropriate to ensure the well-being of the residents is maintained. I hope the residents will be patient and give the relevant parties space to resolve this difficulty as quickly as possible, Srikandi Muda Bersatu Malaysia is committed to continuing to help and support recovery efforts in the affected areas,' she said. Following this, Srikandi Muda Malaysia Exco, Nurul Hidayah Anuar, along with Wan Noor Fairus, urged all affected residents in Tapah, Bidor, and Teluk Intan to be patient and give the LAP room to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Delving into the feelings of the residents at this time, Nurul Hidayah hopes that all the difficulties can be overcome as quickly as possible and hopes that the affected residents will continue to be prioritized for access to clean water resources. 'Most of the residents here are families, so when the water supply is disrupted, various problems will inevitably arise, especially if there are elderly, sick, or disabled individuals. We will continue to monitor and ensure that they are not marginalized and given priority,' 'As a temporary measure, regular water distribution is being carried out, so I hope residents will be aware of the movement of water tanker lorries in their respective areas. All information can be referred to on the LAP social media platform to ensure that basic amenities can continue to be enjoyed by affected residents,' she said when met today during a visit to the homes of victims of the landslide incident last Tuesday. The prolonged disruption of water supply for almost a week is a consequence of a landslide that occurred in Taman Bunga Raya, Jalan Pahang Tapah on Tuesday last, causing four houses in the area to suffer severe damage, but fortunately, there were no casualties. The landslide also caused a raw water pipe channeling water to the Bukit Temoh Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to leak, resulting in several areas in Tapah, Bidor, and Teluk Intan experiencing water supply disruptions. Repair work on the leaking pipe is currently underway, involving the installation of retaining walls at the top and bottom of the collapsed area.

Penang Records Lowest Per Capita Water Consumption in 24 YearsPerbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) reported that Penang's per capita domestic water consumption reached its lowest point in 24 years in 2023. The average consumption was 261 liters per capita per day, a decrease of 8.1% from 2022. PBAPP attributed the reduction to factors like new water rates, public awareness campaigns, and the 10 Percent Reduction Campaign. Despite the positive trend, the water supply status remains 'unsafe' as both Air Itam Dam and Teluk Bahang Dam are not yet at full capacity.
