Australia's consumer watchdog has cracked down on the price-gouging of rapid antigen tests (RAT), warning retailers will face hefty penalties if they fail to provide sufficient explanation.
Australia's consumer watchdog says retailers taking advantage of the current circumstances by hiking up the prices of rapid antigen tests is"just beyond outrageous".
"The wholesale prices we are hearing about are anywhere between $3.95, and sometimes those prices go up to $11.45," he told reporters on Monday. There have been numerous reports of single tests being sold at $30 or above from a number of King of the Pack and Metro Petroleum stores .
