The Reagan graduate, whose real name is Dawson Rice, will move to the next round on 'American Idol.'
San Antonio's Dawson Rice, who goes by the stage name Dawson Wayne, is competing in the 21st season of"American Idol."is headed into the next round of"American Idol" after winning over the judges with his original song “Sour Skies.”
“He’s an artist,” Luke Bryan said after Rice’s performance on Sunday night’s episode of the ABC reality competition series. As Rice, 21, stood beside fellow contestants, the judges told him he would move to the next phase. “Just to get that validation, on a song that I wrote, is, uh, pretty cool,” Rice told camera crews after his performance.Former Reagan High School student gets his ticket to Hollywood on 'American Idol'
Rice, who goes by the stage name Dawson Wayne, sang and played a slow ballad on his acoustic guitar. Judge Lionel Richie closed his eyes and appeared visibly moved during the minutelong performance. Rice is a Brigham Young University student who graduated from Reagan High School in 2020. He had been part of Reagan High School’s Fine Arts program, was pit captain and drum major in the Rattler Marching Band, and was part of the school choir.
