The review of Australia’s military posture is the largest in the more than three decades since the 1985 Dibb report andThe defence overhaul will see Australia shift its focus to force projection through a major investment in a domestic guided weapons industry.
Defence Force chief Angus Campbell and Assistant Defence Minister joined Mr Albanese and Mr Marles in Canberra for the major announcement on Monday afternoon. The DSR will call for a reduction in Australia’s infantry capabilities, including tanks, to make way for more long-range assets which will primarily be located in the top end.
It will come in conjunction with a greater focus on maritime capabilities with Australia’s plans to build nine Hunter-class frigates likely to be reduced to six.
