OceanGate Expedition made rounds online last year for producing the first 8K footage of Titanic. Now that its Titan submarine has reached the actual shipwreck, the company has once again gone viral but for disconcerting reasons. | via philstarlife
The high-quality video uncovered new details from the sunken ship, such as the name of the anchor maker, Noah Hingley & Sons Ltd., on the portside anchor. Green lights from the laser scaling system are also seen in the clips.
The new 8K footage will be compared to the videos and images from 2021 to see changes in certain areas of the shipwreck and determine its current rate of decay. The RMS Titanic sank in April 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean during its maiden voyage as it was en route to New York City from Southampton, England. When it collided with an iceberg, some 1,500 passengers and ship personnel died as the ship sank.
The wreck of the Titanic lies at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, some 13,000 feet underwater and about 400 nautical miles from Newfoundland, Canada.
