A clerk of the course has found themselves in the thick of the action at the Warrnambool Carnival attempting to stop a riderless horse at the end of a 3200m jumps race. John Leek rode Affluential to victory while Kathryn Durden, aboard runner-up Lincoln King, was lucky to escape a near miss on the front straight.

Clerk of the course attempts to stop riderless horse. Lincoln King led towards the finish after the last jump but was suddenly on a collision course with the clerk and Abreed, which had thrown Aaron Kuru from the saddle. Abreed had been running solo on the inside when it met up with the field after the final bend. The clerk initially looked to have secured Abreed, which struck the rail, but the horse freed itself, moved outside and ran loose to the finish.
