Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala’s availability for the start of the season is in question.
SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors can’t say for certain whether Klay Thompson will be ready to go when the season begins later this month.
Thompson has been “getting better” every day as the Warriors gradually add more to his workload. He participated in a controlled, live portion of practice Wednesday, but it’s unlikely he’ll play in the team’s full scrimmage Thursday. “I’m excited for this season,” Thompson said, “like it’s hard to even put into words how excited I am.”
The Warriors are also playing it safe with 38-year-old Andre Iguodala, who made a last-minute decision to rejoin the team for one final season the day before camp opened. Patrick Baldwin Jr. might’ve looked like less than a project after his first two preseason performances than when the Warriors picked him No. 28 overall despite playing in only 11 college games. But the plan remains for the 19-year-old to start the season in Santa Cruz with the Warriors G League affiliate.
But those fundamentals likely won’t be enough to keep Baldwin on the Warriors’ opening night roster. He’ll likely be sent to Santa Cruz to continue to get more reps. ”
