Datuk Seri Mohd. Shafie Apdal, President of Warisan Party, reiterates his call for unity among Sabah's local parties but expresses disappointment over the lack of positive response. He refutes claims of talks with GRS and addresses allegations of corruption linked to him by G57.
Despite repeatedly calling for unity among local parties, Warisan Party has not received a positive response. Warisan President, Datuk Seri Mohd. Shafie Apdal, stated that he has suggested this numerous times, but it has not been met with enthusiasm. “I’ve spoken about joining forces with local parties, I’ve made it clear. How many years have I been saying this? What response have I received? They (GRS) say they don’t want to cooperate with Warisan , it’s up to them.
“When I talk about unification, it’s not about uniting for the sake of power or positions. We need to unite as Sabahans to solve the problems faced by the people,” he said after the Christmas and New Year Celebration organized by Warisan in Kota Kinabalu yesterday. He added that Sabah leaders need to unite to address the people’s problems, rather than for personal or party interests. Regarding claims that Warisan is in talks with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ahead of the State Election, Shafie dismissed it as mere gossip. On the Aman Bangkit Sabahan rally organized by Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) linking his name to corruption, Mohd. Shafie said he had been called and investigated for two weeks, even having his home raided, but no money was found. However, video recordings of a recent corruption scandal clearly show a state assemblyman admitting to not having enough money to return. The rally linking his name to corruption is merely an attempt to divert public attention from the real issues at hand. “So, I don’t want to sing their song. We’ll wait for the steps taken regarding the video recordings. “If we truly want to address corruption in this country, we need to tackle the problem head-on,” he concluded.
