PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has confirmed that he will be sworn in as the Dewan Negara president on Monday (June 19).
The former Santubong MP said that his nomination was made by the Prime Minister's Department to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah three days ago and had received approval.
"There was no other nomination because I was the only candidate from the government. I went to Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to meet the parliamentary secretary. "I also had a meeting last night to ensure that the arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony were done perfectly in accordance with the law and the constitution," he said on Sunday , as reported by Sarawak state broadcast channel TVS.He had held several key Cabinet posts under previous administrations including Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker from 2008 until 2013.Wan Junaidi subsequently won the Santubong parliamentary seat in the 2008 general election and was its MP until 2022.
