The retailer says the change in policy, which was shared with employees through a corporate memo, better aligns with the updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which cut isolation restrictions for asymptomatic Americans who catch the coronavirus from 10 to five days and similarly shortened the time that close contacts need to quarantine.

According to Walmart's policy, employees who have contracted COVID-19 and are unable to return to work after the week may be eligible for additional pay for up to 26 weeks.
