Classes on Monday, Oct. 9 are suspended in several areas in Batangas due to volcanic fog or vog from Taal volcano.
Vog, an acidic gas that may severely irritate the eyes, throat, and respiratory tract, has been observed over Taal Volcano's caldera on Sunday, according to state volcanologists.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the gas is especially dangerous to people with asthma, lung disease, heart disease, the elderly, pregnant women, and children.
In an earlier advisory, Phivolcs reminded the public that Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, which means the volcano"is still in abnormal condition and should not be interpreted to have ceased unrest nor ceased the threat of eruptive activity."
