On January 13, Gunn took to Twitter to respond to a tweet by fan account @SuperFilmNews, which stated that "Jacob Elordi was rumored to be James Gunn's Superman for the DCU," and asked people for thoughts. Gunn saw the open invitation and gladly took it to refute the chatter.
"My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet," he wrote in a quote tweet. "Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn't. We'll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won't be one of them."
In 2022, Gunn opened up about his and Safran's plan for the DCEU on Twitter, sharing that Superman would definitely be on the slate. "In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill," Gunn
