Following the president’s announcement of the 29 May election date, the IEC said South Africans not yet registered to vote have until Friday to do so.
On 29 May, over 27 million South Africans are expected to take to the polls for the national and provincial elections.
It's the final countdown before registration officially closes, with the IEC urging South Africans who have not yet registered to vote to do so. The commission held two voter registration campaigns between November 2023 and earlier in February, bringing the voters' roll to 27.6 million. This is the first time the country's voters' roll has surpassed this number since the start of the democratic elections 30 years ago.
The IEC said those who wished to register or update their details could visit their local IEC office or use their online portal.
