Malaysia and Singapore will launch a pilot program to send volunteer English teachers from Singapore to schools in the Klang Valley. The program aims to improve English language proficiency in Malaysian schools.
The Education Ministry (MOE) announced that a pilot project for the Malaysia - Singapore English Volunteers Programme (MSEVP) will be implemented in the middle of the year. This month-long pilot will involve several schools in the Klang Valley to conduct preliminary studies before the full program launch. The selection of schools is being carefully considered, taking into account the program's impact on both the schools and students.
The pilot project will follow the exchange of a Letter of Intent (LOI) between the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and Yayasan Guru Tun Hussein Onn. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong witnessed the exchange of documents for the program between Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Singapore’s Education Minister Chan Chun Sing following the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat. During a joint press conference, Wong stated that Singapore and Malaysia had established various cooperation agreements, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on higher education and the exchange of English teachers through MSEVP
