She says she 'betrayed herself' by appearing in the film

Davis also said the film's humorous tone did not allow for it to treat its Black characters with the humanity they deserved:There's a part of me that feels like I betrayed myself, and my people, because I was in a movie that wasn't ready to [tell the actual story].'Davis previously spoke out about her issues with the maids portrayal in the film, telling thein 2018 that she 'just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard.
