PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Immigration managed to save three Vietnamese women who were believed to have been exploited as sex workers by a prostitution syndicate.
Immigration Department director Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the three women, all aged 18, were found at a premises believed to be used as a brothel in Kota Kemuning on Tuesday .
"Early investigations revealed that the three women had been exploited to be sex workers. They were later brought to a safe house," he said on Thursday . The women were rescued in a special operation to prevent human trafficking and money laundering activities involving the department's special tactical team and the Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Council task force following a tip-off from the public.
The team also arrested a 37-year-old Malaysian man and his Vietnamese girlfriend along with a female Myanmar national.All three have been arrested in suspicion of committing human trafficking offences under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
