2 videos have surfaced on social media that appear to show people in China forcibly being taken for quarantine or isolation over coronavirus.
outbreak, according to The Associated Press, citing a report Wednesday in the official provincial media outlet, Jiangsu Communication Broadcasting Station.
The Chinese media outlet reported that people have been asked to self-quarantine in their homes for 14 days. The family was taken away by local epidemic prevention personnel after they had returned home. A second video posted Thursday on Twitter appears to show two people in the city of Suzhou, which is also in Jiangsu Province, standing on a sidewalk hugging before at least one of them is escorted into what looks like an isolation container on the back of a government vehicle.The surfacing of the videos comes after a Chinese government official visited Wuhan on Thursday.
A few days earlier, on Feb. 2, the Wuhan government released a notice about quarantining “four types of people," which are people confirmed to have coronavirus; those suspected to have the virus; people with fevers who can’t be ruled out for having the virus; and those who have had close contact with people with confirmed cases.
“The specific quarantine observation time is determined based on the results of the medical examination, and the patient should cooperate; if he refuses to cooperate, the public security organ shall assist the enforcement according to law," the Wuhan government said.according to the government's National Health Commission.Suzanne Ciechalski is a New York-based reporter for NBC News' Social Newsgathering team.
