A heavily tattooed alleged gunman has been shot dead by police in north Victoria following a three-day interstate manhunt.

Stanley Turvey, 33, was located at an address in Ardmona, near Shepparton, just after 10.15 am on Wednesday.

Turvey's crime spree began on Monday when he allegedly approached officers and fired a shot into the air during an attempted arrest at Katandra West.
