Two Victoria Police officers have been charged with assault, following an incident last year in which a man was injured during an arrest in Melbourne's south-east.
The 35-year-old and 45-year old male senior constables from the transit and public safety command were charged with unlawful assault and unlawful assault with a weapon.The charges relate to an incident on February 4, 2022 in which a 58-year-old man was hospitalised after sustaining injuries during an arrest in Narre Warren South. He has since been released from hospital.
IBAC is responsible for preventing and exposing police misconduct, and the body reviews the outcome of internal police investigations to ensure they were thorough and fair.
