New restrictions for Melbourne and regional Victoria will go ahead tonight as planned, the acting premier says, adding that today's new coronavirus cases are close contacts of former cases.
Acting Premier James Merlino said police would be asked to help stop people fleeing metropolitan Melbourne for regional Victoria, where there are eased restrictions.“We’re talking about a significant increase in the number of police patrols along all of our arterial roads, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as spot checks in regional Victoria,” he said.
“In general, there is a constrained supply of Pfizer vaccines,” he said. “If we had more, then we would be able to give more.“But there’s a supply chain that comes from the Commonwealth and in turn that comes from overseas. We are making do with what we’ve got at the moment.”“There’s a shortage,” he said. “We are not across the exact numbers but we do get some forward predictions on what supply will come, obviously that’s dependent on the supply coming in from overseas as well.
“All of the sites were very busy, and you will understand that there was a wait and there are active divisions in place to nearby centres to try and share that load.”Acting Premier James Merlino has also confirmed all of Thursday’s cases are primary close contacts of former cases.Deputy Chief Health Officer Allen Cheng then detailed the links, confirming all were in isolation for their “entire infectious period”, which is fabulous news for locked-down Melburnians.
Professor Cheng also confirmed two previously identified cases attended North Melbourne Primary School.
