Lynn Lowder, a retired Marine who received a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War, opened Rosie's Home Cookin', a diner in Naperville, Illinois. He has a positive message for other vets.

"We have a lot of veterans and townspeople coming in," he added. The diner, he said, is"a way to celebrate things that, I think, have made this country great: certainly, our first responders, Rosies — we have a ‘Missing Man’ table."

Lowder said that opening Rosie's Home Cookin' has made him the happiest he has been since before he joined the Marines. Veterans receive a discount at Rosie's Home Cookin', a diner modeled in part on the small-town diners of Lowder's past."We know that, historically, in the nine years following World War II, 49.7% of ourLowder founded a nonprofit called the Veteran Business Project. He said it helps"veterans find their lane in life." Veterans, said Lowder, are"people of their word and people of action.
