'Very large hail,' damaging winds possible for San Antonio area

There is a chance for strong storms starting Thursday afternoon and continuing into Friday for San Antonio, the Hill Country and the I-35 corridor.

Thursday and Friday will include some risk of hail and damaging winds in San Antonio, the Hill Country and Interstate 35 corridor, according to the National Weather Service.Severe storms are possible over most of South Central Texas starting Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Storms capable of forming “very large hail” and damaging wind gusts are a concern starting about 3 p.m. and running into the early morning hours of Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Most of San Antonio, the Hill Country and the Interstate 35 corridor will see a 15 percent to 29 percent chance of severe hail and wind, according to the weather service. Parts of the Hill Country and areas west of San Antonio also have a greater than 10% chance of seeing hail bigger than 2 inches in diameter.The storm chances will be highest between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. for areas west of San Antonio and north of Boerne. For San Antonio and the I-35 corridor, the storms are expected from 7 p.m.

The probability of isolated storms is lower for most of the San Antonio area heading into Friday evening, according to forecasters. More northern parts of the Hill Country like Fredericksburg and Kerrville do have some possiblity of strong storms.
