Sister Raffaella Petrini, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, currently serves as secretary-general of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State. A nun will take over as head of the Vatican City State’s executive branch in March this year, according to the pope, to become the first woman appointed to the role.
The pope called the planned mass deportation in the US following President Donald Trump’s inauguration “a disgrace,” because “it makes the poor, who have nothing, pay the price for imbalance.”Trump has vowed to begin enacting the largest mass deportation in US history on the first day of his presidency which begins on Jan. 20,Francis also addressed the war in the Middle East, noting the start of the ceasefire on Jan. 19 in Gaza and the release of three women held hostage by Hamas.
He also spoke about other topics including abuse, which he described as “a very great evil” against which we must “fight forcefully.”
