BREAKING: The Vatican media has confirmed Australian Cardinal George Pell has died aged 81.
Vatican media in Italy confirmed late on Tuesday night he died after complications from a hip replacement surgery.
The operation was completed and he was in the middle of chatting with the anaesthetist when he went into cardiac arrest, it has been reported. Pell was made Cardinal in 2003 where he was part of the conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI and the same assembly that later elected Pope Francis In 2017 he was charged and found guilty of historical child sex abuse but the conviction was later overturned.
